Catholic singer/songwriter Jacob Rudd is preparing for a new album in 2023, and he has already begun releasing singles. Our first look at the album, titled Fighting for the Kingdom, was a tune called “Jesus Is My Savior,” a laid-back proclamation of faith that feels like a hymn, with bluegrass tones provided by a banjo and violin.
From the tenderly plucked guitar intro, the song sets a peaceful atmosphere. As Rudd proclaims the truth of his Catholic faith, the song jumps from one catchy hook to the next. We especially liked how the pre-chorus changes up the pace of the song, contrasting the easygoing rhythm of the song with brief pauses that accentuate the lyrics as they turn to the doldrums of the secular world.
Throughout the tune Rudd focuses on how he is “set on fire with the joy of the Lord,” a sentiment that is perfect for the ongoing National Eucharistic Revival, which seeks to set the next generation aflame with renewed faith in and love for the Eucharist. In the song’s description, Rudd provided a quote from St. Josemaria Escriva, which likely inspired this relaxed tune:

In a recently released video, Rudd, who has previously spoken to Aleteia about homesteading, can be seen traveling through the woods with his wife, four small children, and his dog. This glimpse into the Rudds’ family time is heartwarming, despite how chilly it looks as they slide down the snowy hills. The lovely, technology-free outing perfectly complements Rudd’s musical style, which often leans on acoustic instruments rather than high-powered electric amps.
