This encounter at a zoo in Vienna shows a moment when the animal world bonded with the human world.

Young mom Gemma Copeland posted a touching encounter she had with an orangutan at Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna that shows the power of motherhood — across the animal kingdom.

In a post on Facebook, Copeland explained how while on a trip to Vienna, she went to visit the zoo with her family, and at the end of the day popped in to visit the orangutan enclosure.

She sat on the floor with her little baby so he could get a closer look of the orangutan who was not far from the window. She explained on her Facebook post that the orangutan “then got up, carried a piece of cloth to the window and sat down with me. She looked directly into my eyes then placed her hand up as if to touch my son. I was in awe of this beautiful creature already.”

In the calm, the mom discreetly started feeding her newborn and had the most beautiful experience:

“The way the orangutan reacted took my breath away she kept looking at me, then my son then back again. She sat with me for approximately half an hour, kept stroking the glass and lay down next to me as if to support and protect me.”

As Copeland pointed out: “We may be a species apart but breastfeeding connected us today in a once in a lifetime moment that will stay with me forever.”
