Here are some of our favorite beautiful and inspiring Catholic books for living Advent well.

Everyone’s favorite time of year is rolling around, and it’s time to think about what you want to do for Advent this year. Here are some of our favorite Catholic books for living Advent well.

The Three Comings of Christ

Mike Pacer, founder and president of 5 Stones, is the author of the newly released book, The Three Comings of Christ. The book walks readers through daily meditations throughout the Advent season on each coming of Christ — the Incarnation, Christ’s coming to us at the end of our lives, and Christ’s coming to us each day.

Ascension Press offers a lovely series of Advent meditation books. Some of the topics include “An Advent Pilgrimage into the Heart of Scripture” and “Finding Your Place in the Advent Story.”

Oriens: A Pilgrimage Through Advent and Christmas 2022

Oriens is designed to be a guidebook on a pilgrimage through Advent, helping readers to pray and reflect more deeply. Each day includes a Scripture passage, Fr. Joel Sember’s guidance on how to pray with that passage, and questions for reflection and journaling.

The Advent and Christmas Wisdom Series

Journey through Advent with your favorite saint or spiritual writer, thanks to this beautiful series from Liguori Publications. Different books in the series highlight St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Francis of Assisi, Padre Pio, St. John Paul II, and many others!

Advent Daily Reflections Series

Choose from several books of Advent reflections from Franciscan Media, including “Advent with the Saints” and “Scripture Reflections to Prepare for Christmas.”

The Reed of God by Caryll Houselander

First published in 1944 and now a spiritual classic, The Reed of God contains meditations on the humanity of Mary, Mother of God from British Catholic writer and artist Caryll Houselander. Houselander describes an intuitive, warmly human, and approachable image of the Mother of God. The essays and poems reflect on the mysteries of Mary’s life and her impact on salvation history.

Memento Mori: An Advent Companion on the Last Things

In Memento Mori, Sr. Theresa Aletheia Noble explores the traditional Christian practice of meditation on death in light of Christ through the lens of the Advent season.

Peace Has A Name 2022 Advent Devotional

“This Advent, you are invited to rest in God’s peace.” This originally designed devotional book contains reflection essays written by authors from the Blessed Is She writing team, as well as passages from Sacred Scripture, sacred artwork, and original photography.

Adore: A Guided Advent Journal for Prayer and Meditation

This lovely journal won a first-place award in the classical spirituality and best front cover artwork categories and a second-place award in design and production from the Catholic Media Association.

In it, popular author and speaker Fr. John Burns and illustrator Valerie Delgado aim to help readers reclaim the sacred sense of longing and joyful hope at the heart of Advent, focusing on a new theme each week that you can relate to your own life.

Each day includes a scripture- and liturgy-based meditation, stunning art created for this book, reflection questions, a prayer, and journaling space. The book has an imprimatur.
