Most of the victims of the crowd surge were young people.

After remembering the victims of terrorism in Somalia, the Pope turned his prayer to the victims of the crowd surge in South Korea.

Let us pray to the Risen Lord also for those – especially the young – who died in Seoul, as a tragic consequence of a sudden crowd surge.

The Pope recalled the tragedy after leading the midday Angelus on October 30.

More than 150 people died in a popular district of South Korea’s capital on Saturday night. Halloween is one of the busiest times of the year in the area and on Saturday, some 100,000 people, mostly youth, were there to celebrate.

Hundreds were packed into an alley, and when the crowd began pushing, people were trapped and couldn’t move.
