Matt Maher’s new single, “Only Good Will Grow,” is an instant classic

J-P Mauro - published on 08/02/22

Matt Maher hits this one out of the park with exceptional vocal harmonies and a gripping chord progression.

Like a fine wine, Matt Maher gets better and better as time passes. The 9-time Grammy Award nominee just released a new single, “Only Good Will Grow,” and, of all his hits, it may be the best tune he’s ever written.

Maher wastes no time with introductions as he jumps right in with guitar and vocals. The tune has a distinct mid-20th-century feel to it, complete with a guitar solo that sounds like it could have been inspired by the works of George Harrison. The chord progression is especially gripping, with suspensions that pull on the listener’s emotions.

Where “Only Good Will Grow” really shines, however, is in the exceptional vocal work by Maher and his guest singer, Brian Elmquist. The pair sing every word of the song together in exceptional harmony, making it a rare true duet in an era when vocal harmonies are often eschewed for singing in unison. This, along with the imagery of the music video, only accentuate the song’s 1960s/1970s vibe.

The tune is sure to continue playing on in the listener’s head long after it’s finished, and it practically demands to be played on repeat. The beauty of the melody is supported by simple, yet powerful lyrics that tell of goodness that is ever growing in us, even in times of hardship. All said and done, “Only Good Will Grow,” is a phenomenal showing from Maher and we would be very surprised if it didn’t garner him his 10th Grammy nomination.

Matt Maher is currently preparing to tour through the U.S. in 2022. He’s got a few dates in August, but the tour will really heat up in December when he’ll visit nine cities all over the country. Visit Maher’s website for a full list of tour dates.
