Prayer for the grace to reject false teaching

The Sermon on the Mount by Fra Angelico

Manuel Cohen / Aurimages

Philip Kosloski - published on 07/19/22

Pray this prayer to ask God for the grace to reject anything that is contrary to Jesus Christ.

Sometimes we can be tempted by nice-sounding doctrines that appear to be consistent with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These teachings look promising, but instead take us away from the Catholic Church.

It is at those times when we need the grace of God to recognize these false teachings and to have the strength to reject them.

Here is the collect prayer from the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time, which perfectly summarizes this situation and asks God for the grace to reject anything contrary to Jesus Christ.

O God, who show the light of your truth to those who go astray,
so that they may return to the right path,
give all who for the faith they profess are accounted Christians
the grace to reject whatever is contrary to the name of Christ
and to strive after all that does it honor.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
