Ask God for the grace to be docile to the voice of the Holy Spirit, as the Virgin Mary was during her life.

The Virgin Mary is the prime example of a human who was entirely docile to the Holy Spirit, ready and willing to do whatever was necessary. The word docile means, at heart, an openness to being taught.

Here is a prayer recalling Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth and asking for Mary’s docile attention to the voice of the Spirit.

Almighty, ever-living God,
you inspired the Blessed Virgin Mary,
when she was carrying your Son,
to visit Elizabeth.

Grant that, always docile to the voice of the Spirit,
we may, together with Our Lady, glorify your Name.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
