According to Alicia Martinez of Broomfield, Colorado, a St. Michael statue that she has in her home began to ooze “blood” on February 23, 2022, shortly before Russian troops invaded Ukraine.
She shared the video on social media, and it quickly became viral. However, after several people accused her of trying to get attention, she took it down.
Martinez was shocked by what happened and called a priest, asking for spiritual guidance, who responded by encouraging her to pray.
According to the National Catholic Register, “Mark Haas, public relations director for the Archdiocese of Denver, told CNA March 7 that the archdiocese ‘has just recently been informed of this claim and we will investigate.'”
Investigation Process
In all cases of reported miracles, the local bishop is the first authority to investigate a miracle. He creates a board of professionals to evaluate the event and then they report to him their results.
In most cases the event is not verified as a miracle.
The Church is very skeptical when it comes to reports of miracles as they can be manufactured or simply natural events that are seen by an individual as something supernatural. Whether it be an apparition of the Blessed Mother, a Eucharistic miracle, or a St. Michael statue oozing “blood,” a team of scientists investigate the event to determine if it follows the rules of nature, or if it is impossible to explain outside of a supernatural cause.
It may takes weeks or months to investigate the reported miracle in Colorado, and even then, the results may not be published, unless something extraordinary really did occur.
