This year's celebration will fall on July 24, 2022.

Pope Francis’ official Twitter page announced the theme for the 2nd World Day for Grandparents and Elderly.

The Pope created this day, which falls on a Sunday near the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anna, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus.

He has followed up the announcement with two more tweets:

Respect and care for the elderly has been one of the principle themes of Francis’ pontificate.

He has blasted euthanasia as both a failure of care and a reduction of persons to dollars, while at the same time emphasizing that the elderly are the roots and wisdom of a society, and without respect for them, the society is failing.
