Judge rejects prosecutor's offer to start from scratch; next hearing is November 17

The Vatican trial on the London building will go ahead: After two sessions slowed by procedural issues, Judge Giuseppe Pignatone rejected requests for nullity issued by the defense during a short third hearing on October 6, 2021. The next hearing has been set for November 17.

The magistrate ordered the return of part of the documents presented in the acts to the Promoter of Justice, Alessandro Diddi. The day before, Diddi had asked for them in order to “start from zero,” admitting to having made errors in the entry in the file of certain elements.

With the judge’s decision to go forward, the Promoter of Justice will have to file all the missing documents before November 3, including the videos of the recordings of the key witness Mgr Alberto Perlasca.

As the day before, only Cardinal Angelo Becciu and Bishop Mauro Carlino were present among the 10 people indicted during the hearing.
