In the book of Daniel, there is a story of three young men, Hananiah and Mishael and Azariah, who are thrown into a fiery furnace.
Yet, when they prayed to God they were spared and unharmed by the flames.
With this in mind, here is a prayer from Ember Saturday that asks God to protect us from the flames of sin and temptation.
O God, who didst cause the three holy youths to go unscathed through the flames of the fiery furnace; mercifully grant that no flame of vice may ever consume your servants.
