These traditions show how much Lent has changed for many.

Lent begins tomorrow, and as many of consider how to make it a rewarding experience in the face of the ongoing sacrifices we are already making, it can be edifying to look at traditional Lenten practices and take inspiration from them.

Ireland is one place in the world where there are strong traditions associated with Lent. If we look to the way Lent has been observed in such places over the years, it can give us the strength to believe that a worldwide pandemic is only a slight bump in a road when it comes to a 2,000-year-old history.
