Woman who lost family in Athens wildfires writes letter that touches hearts around the world.

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare–your children trapped and in danger, and you unable to reach them. This horror became reality for Varvara Fytrou, who lost her husband and two children in the Athens wildfires while she was away from home.

Watch this video to read her powerful words, including the heartbreaking last conversation she had with her son just before he died.

Fytrou’s daughter, Evita, 13, was a national cycling champion who leapt off a cliff to her death in an attempt to escape the inferno. The bodies of Fytrou’s husband, Grigoris, 54, and son Andreas, 11, were found charred inside their car.

In the depths of her grief, Fytrou has published an open letter that has gone viral, offering a moving tribute to the loved ones she lost. She encourages other parents to cherish every moment with their children.

“I will tell you with certainty that I have lost everything,” she writes. “Hug your children every day.”

Fytrou’s words have touched hearts around the world, showing that despite her heartbreaking loss, the flames could not destroy her love and faith.
