Wimbledon finalist Roger Federer, the tennis player second only to Novak Djokovic in the world right now, is also the founder of the Roger Federer Foundation, which provides for the educational needs of kids in Africa and Switzerland. In southern Africa, the group’s efforts focus on improvement of basic education and providing early learning for young kids, while in Switzerland it provides extracurriculars for kids living in poverty.

Pope Francis to Visit Africa
After spending approximately $13.5 million in one of world’s most impoverished countries, the foundation is now opening their 81st pre-school in Malawi. Federer recently tweeted photos from his first visit:

Federer writes on his website, “I believe in the power of people. They might only need some initial empowerment. We know that a good education empowers children by allowing them to take their future into their own hands and play an active part in shaping it.” His mission in not only to provide basic education, but to empower kids to take control of their lives and create their own futures.
