One of the most exciting things about becoming pregnant is getting to share the news with friends and family. But mom-to-be Christine Stone must tell her 77-year-old mom, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, repeatedly about her news and each time she’s rewarded with the same joyous reaction.
Stone, 38, who’s expecting her firstborn in October, decided to compile a short video of her mom’s reactions for prosperity, explaining to Today: “I wanted my baby to see how excited her grandmother was that she was coming.” And seeing Grandma’s contagious hand-clapping and broad grins shows just how much happiness and excitement the new family arrival will bring.
Stone, from South Carolina, visits her aging parents in North Carolina twice a month to give her care-giver father a much-needed break. Her mom, who has already battled breast cancer and stage 4 colon cancer, started showing signs of this debilitating disease 10 years ago, but thanks to the love, support, and patience of her family she is cared for by those whom she loves. While Stone talks of the frustrations of answering the same questions time and time again, she hopes to raise awareness around the disease that affects more than 5.5 million Americans, by highlighting “Yes, it’s a terrible disease, but you can still find moments of joy through it.”
