Pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi draws attention to the melting ice in the Arctic
The vocation of being a “protector,” however, is not just something involving us Christians alone; it also has a prior dimension which is simply human, involving everyone. It means protecting all creation, the beauty of the created world, as the Book of Genesis tells us and as Saint Francis of Assisi showed us. It means respecting each of God’s creatures and respecting the environment in which we live. — Pope Francis, homily at his papal inauguration

To draw attention to the melting of glaciers in the Arctic due to climate change, pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi performed one of his own compositions on a floating platform in the middle of the ocean in Svalbard, Norway, with the background of the Wahlenbergbreen glacier.

The acclaimed Italian artist finds a way to integrate his playing with the sounds of ice breaking and moving all around him. As he plays his somber but beautiful piece, we can observe how glaciers break off and crumble into the sea.
