Fighters from over 100 countries have travelled to Iraq, Syria, Libya and Pakistan

New York/Aleteia (Aleteia.org/ar) – Foreign combatants are pouring into the Middle East to join the Islamic terrorist groups more than at any other time previous.

More than 25,000 foreign fighters from at least 100 different countries have traveled to areas of Iraq, Syria, Libya and Pakistan; which threatens global security, according to a United Nations report.

“The number of combatants has risen significantly,” which is an increase of 71% between the middle of 2014 and March 2015. The groups who most benefit from these “terrorist immigrants” are al-Qaeda and ISIS.

The report warned that the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria could lead to these combatants, along with their expertise, to spread throughout all parts of the world.

In fact, there are 6500 fighters in Afghanistan and hundreds in Yemen, Libya and Pakistan.

The number of foreign combatants coming from Tunisia, Morocco, France and Russia has also increased. There has likewise been an increase in the number coming from the Maldives, Finland, and Trinidad and Tobago.
